Section 7

Section 7 of the Uniform Residential Loan Application (URLA) is titled "Military Service." This section is designed to collect information about the military service of the borrower or their deceased spouse. Here are the directions for a borrower completing Section 7:
- Military Service Question: The borrower is asked to indicate whether they (or their deceased spouse) have ever served, or are currently serving, in the United States Armed Forces. This is a simple "NO" or "YES" question.
- If the answer is "NO," then the borrower does not need to provide any additional information in this section.
- If the answer is "YES," then the borrower must proceed to the next steps to provide details.
- Service Details: For those who answer "YES," they must check all applicable boxes that describe their current or past military service. The options include:
- Currently serving on active duty with a projected expiration date of service/tour, which the borrower must provide in the format (mm/dd/yyyy).
- Currently retired, discharged, or separated from service.
- Only period of service was as a non-activated member of the Reserve or National Guard.
- Surviving spouse of a service member.
- Provide Dates: If the borrower is currently serving on active duty, they must provide the projected expiration date of their service or tour. This date should be entered in the space provided, using the month/day/year format.
It's important for the borrower to provide accurate information in this section, as it may have implications for certain loan programs, including those specifically available to veterans or active military personnel. If the borrower has any questions or needs clarification on how to complete this section, they should reach out to their lender for assistance.
